Clases de Baile folclórico Mexicano (Mexican Folk Dance)

Join Penobscot Bay Language School and celebrated dance instructor, Leticia Galván Cordova, for Clases de Baile folclórico Mexicano (Mexican Folk Dance) this winter! Five week sessions are being offered starting the week of January 16th, and February 20th. Classes meet twice weekly (Thursdays & Saturdays). Families with children, adults looking for a great workout, and anyone interested in the history and diverse culture of Mexico will enjoy this class!

Saturdays from 2:00-4:00 PM Señora Cordova will be offering group classes for all levels and ages. Thursdays from 5:30 – 7:00 PM PBLS will be open for practice sessions with Señora Cordova. History, culture, regional identity, folktales and global influences are all aspects of Mexican dance culture that will be explored along with the movements and patterns of each culturally significant dance.

Participants will learn about the numerous traditional dances that come from the various diverse cultural regions of the 31 states of Mexico. Furthermore, discussion about pre-colonial “danza”, the impact and legacy of colonialism, and post colonial influences will help give a 360 degree understanding of the diverse cultural influences that make Mexico such a unique and beautiful place. More than just a dance class, this program is intended to be a deep dive into culture as a global theme.

Five-week sessions start the week  February 20th (first class Thursday 2/23/23)
