PBLS has recently embarked on a journey to offer FREE English language classes (ESL) to “New Mainers”. Throughout our program launch in September of 2021 we are becoming more aware of the push-pull factors that drive global migration. Climate change, devastated local economies, gang violence, foreign military intervention, and so many other factors lead people to make the difficult choice to leave home in search of a safe and prosperous future. Our interest in exploring the current crisis on the US-Mexico border is intended to help bring these conversations to light here at home in Maine, and debunk many of the myths and preconceptions of what drives human migration worldwide.
