Traditional Mexican Posada Holiday Event
December 18, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Celebrate and learn about the Mexican holiday tradition of “posadas” with a holiday party at Penobscot Bay Language School! This event is open to the public, with a suggested $10 donation, online registration preferred, phone calls welcome. This volunteer-led holiday event, based on the Mexican tradition of “posadas” is brought to you by a Maine family with strong family ties to their Mexican heritage – and want to share this wonderful tradition with PBLS and our supporters. This holiday party is open to the public. Donations can be made online or at the door.
Location: Penobscot Bay Language School – 28 Gay Street, Rockland, ME 04841.
Date: Sunday, December 18th
Time: 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
Traditional snacks from Mexico will be provided (including tacos de canasta, guacamole, ponche, gelatina, and other authentic treats!). The event includes a discussion about the history and cultural significance of this unique holiday tradition, as well as other meaningful holiday customs from around the world from our diverse group of attendees. Music, dancing, singing (ENG/SPA), drinks, snacks and–just for the niños & niñas–a piñata full of authentic Mexican candy!—plus so much more at our one stop posada!
The tradition of posadas celebrates the Christian tradition of the Nativity (birth of Jesus Christ) with a community procession of children and adults, in costume, representing the roles of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and other Nativity attendees following the tradition. This community event takes people from house to house to sing, eat holiday snacks, drink “ponche”, and spend the holidays with family, friends and neighbors. Join PBLS, staff, volunteers and guests for our posada celebration at PBLS on Sunday December 18th from 1-4pm!
